Co je to Evropský zelený pás? Evropský zelený pás (European Green Belt) potvrzuje pravdivost pořekadla, že "všechno zlé je pro něco dobré". Podél bývalé železné opony vzniklo pásmo člověkem nijak nenarušované přírody. Příroda zde byla uchráněna před velkými změnami probíhajícími v okolní krajině a podél pro lidi neprostupné hranice se zachovala jedinečná kontinuita přírodních stanovišť. Evropský zelený pás se táhne od severního cípu Evropy přes střední Evropu k Černému a Jónskému moři. Zahrnuje velmi působivou a křehkou krajinu a je domovem přirozené původní flóry a fauny jednotlivých regionů. V současnosti patří přírodní celky podél hranice dělící kdysi Evropu na západní a východní k nejzachovalejším a nejhodnotnějším v rámci celého kontinentu. Je zapotřebí tento unikátní pás zachovalé přírody chránit.

Co je to BESTbelt? BESTbelt je nástrojem k podpoře přírody a místních komunit uvnitř Evropského zeleného pásu. BESTbelt – More power for the European Green Belt
The BESTbelt pilot project is a vital part of the European Green Belt Initiative, which aims to protect the European Green Belt - Europe's longest green network. Spanning 12,500 kilometres across the continent, the European Green Belt connects natural and cultural habitats and a total of 24 countries. The European Green Belt forms the backbone of a pan-European ecological network and is an invaluable and unique element of Europe's green infrastructure.
The EU-funded BESTbelt project was launched in 2021 with the aim of improving biodiversity conservation by unlocking the local potential in the 24 countries along the European Green Belt. BESTbelt empowers civil society organisations through small grants, supporting their efforts to protect biodiversity, restore nature, raise environmental awareness, strengthen communities and promote green job opportunities until the end of the project in 2026.
With 49 funded projects in 21 countries and involving some 80 organisations, BESTbelt strongly encourages cross-border cooperation, bringing together organisations from different countries and regions of the European Green Belt to turn the vision of protecting Europe's longest green network into a shared reality.
